Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-8: Particular requirements for shavers, hair clippers and similar appliances
Also Known As:
The safety criteria for home and similar electrical appliances, including shavers, hair clippers, and similar devices, are outlined in the standard IEC 60335-2-8:2012. Appliances with a rated voltage of up to 250 V must adhere to the specification. As they can endanger the public, it also includes tools used for manicures and pedicures as well as those employed by laypeople in stores and on farms, such as animal clippers and shearers.
The standard attempts to address the typical risks connected to these products in a residential environment. People with physical, sensory, or mental disabilities may not be properly taken into account, nor may minors who lack the skills and knowledge needed to operate the appliance securely without adult supervision or guidance.
The standard's current edition, which replaces the prior edition released in 2002, is a technical revision. It also removes a citation to ISO 13732-1 from the bibliography and modifies the specifications for animal shearers and clippers. Within 12 to 36 months after the publication date, the standard advises National Committees to adopt the content for implementation.
