Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-8: Particular Requirements for Shavers, Hair Clippers and Similar Appliances
Also Known As:
The safety criteria for electric shavers, hair clippers, and similar equipment used in homes and other comparable contexts are the topic of the standard IEC 60335-2-8:2012+AMD1:2015. The standard includes devices used for nail care, pedicures, animal shearing, and hair styling with a rated voltage of up to 250 V. It attempts to address the typical risks connected with this equipment that people experience inside and outside of their homes.
Individuals, especially children, whose physical, sensory, or mental capabilities may prevent them from using the equipment safely without supervision or instruction are not taken into account by the standard. The fifth edition of the standard, released in 2002, is replaced by the sixth edition, which also removes a reference from the bibliography and modifies the specifications for animal shearers and animal cutters.
National committees are informed that after the publication of this standard, manufacturers and testing organizations will need a transitional period to conform to the new requirements and carry out revised tests. Within 12 to 36 months of the publication date, the committee advises that the ideas in this document be implemented nationally. The sixth edition (2012) and its amendment 1 (2015) are included in this consolidated version, which eliminates the need to order an extra amendment. IEC 60335-1:2010 should be read in addition to the standard.
