IEC 60335-2-29:2016 PDF Download

A safety standard called IEC 60335-2-29:2016 explicitly addresses the specifications for battery chargers used in home appliances and other comparable electrical devices. The specification applies to battery chargers with a rated voltage no higher than 250 V and an output no greater than 120 V of ripple-free direct current. It covers battery chargers used in garages, businesses, light industries, and farms in addition to those made for regular residential usage.

The standard focuses on the common battery charger risks that are encountered by everyone inside and outside of the home. It does not, however, take into account anyone with physical, sensory, or mental disabilities that prevent them from using the appliance properly without supervision or guidance, including children. 

Built-in battery chargers, chargers included in appliances with inaccessible batteries, chargers used in corrosive or explosive environments, chargers for emergency lighting, and chargers for supply units for electronic equipment are all exempt from the requirements of the standard.

A number of changes and additions have been made to the fifth edition of this standard, which was published in 2016. These include updated drop test references, specifications for supply cords used in cold environments, specifications for battery chargers whose output voltages exceed SELV (Separation of Extra-Low Voltage), and a classification for battery chargers used outside.

It is crucial to remember that IEC 60335-1:2010, which outlines general specifications for home appliances and other related electrical devices, should be read in combination with this standard.
