Standard EN SampleHousehold and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Particular Requirements for Battery Chargers
Also Known As:
A standard known as AS/NZS 60335.2.29:2020 focuses mainly on the safety standards for domestic and similar electrical equipment, particularly battery chargers. It applies to battery chargers with a rated voltage no higher than 250 V and an output no greater than 120 V of ripple-free direct current. This standard also covers battery chargers used in environments that could endanger the public, such as garages, shops, light industries, and farms, as well as those used for purposes not covered by the IEC 60335 family of standards.
The standard attempts to address frequent risks that people may run into in and around their homes, but it does not fully take into consideration people who may have physical, sensory, or mental disabilities that could make it impossible for them to use the appliance safely without supervision or guidance. Furthermore, it doesn't take into account kids playing with the appliance.
It's vital to remember that unless they are designed for installation in caravans or other similar vehicles, this requirement does not apply to built-in battery chargers. Additionally, battery chargers that are a component of a device where the user cannot reach the battery are not included. This standard does not apply to battery chargers made specifically for industrial usage or for use in places with unique requirements, such as those with an explosive or corrosive atmosphere.
