Standard EN SampleHousehold and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Particular Requirements for Flexible Sheet Heating Elements for Room Heating
Also Known As:
The safety criteria for flexible sheet heating components used for room heating are the main subject of the BS EN 60335-2-96 standard. For single-phase installations, heating elements with a rated voltage of up to 250 V and 480 V for other installations are covered by the standard.
The adaptable sheet heating elements are made to be incorporated into the structure and transformed into heating units. To achieve the necessary level of protection against risks, these devices are subsequently fitted in accordance with the given instructions.
This standard does have some specific exceptions, though. It does not apply to heating systems used only for industrial applications or in places with unique circumstances, like an explosive or corrosive climate. Additionally, it excludes flexible heating elements built into other equipment as well as blankets, pads, heated mats, foot warmers, and appliances used underneath carpet.
An introduction, scope, normative references, definitions, general requirements, marking and instructions, protection against access to live parts, power input, heating, endurance, mechanical hazards, electrical safety, resistance to heat and fire, and more are included in the standard's various sections. A bibliography and normative references to foreign literature are also included.
