A Canadian safety standard for home appliances and comparable electrical devices is CSA C22.2 No. 60335-2-37:20. It concentrates particularly on deep-fat fryers and commercial electric doughnut fryers. The previous edition from 2001 has been replaced by IEC Standard 60335-2-37.

This standard's scope includes the safety criteria for commercial deep-fat and doughnut fryers that operate on electricity. With a pressure of little more than 50 kPa, it comprises both pressurized and non-pressurized versions. These devices are designed to be used in business spaces, including cafeterias, hospitals, bakeries, and butcheries. For single-phase appliances, the rated voltage cannot exceed 250 V, while for other appliances, it cannot exceed 480 V. The electrical component of appliances that utilize other sources of energy is also covered by the standard.

The standard strives to address the typical risks that these kinds of appliances provide. It does point out that extra restrictions imposed by national health authorities, labor protection authorities, water supply authorities, and other similar entities can be required for equipment used in automobiles, ships, or aircraft. Appliances made specifically for industrial use or those used in environments with unique characteristics, including corrosive or explosive atmospheres, are exempt from the norm. Additionally, it excludes equipment used in the continual mass production of food.
