Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-44: Particular Requirements for Ironers
Also Known As:
The standard for home and similar electrical appliances, CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60335-2-44:14 (R2018), focuses primarily on ironers. The standard is an adaptation of IEC Standard 60335-2-44 with Canadian variations. Both the prior edition from 2001 and CSA C22.2 No. 99-1954 are replaced by this one.
The standard is applicable to residential and other comparable uses of electric ironers with rated voltages of up to 480 V for other appliances and 250 V for single-phase appliances. It includes equipment used in stores, light industry, and farms that could endanger the general public.
The standard addresses typical ironing risks that people confront inside and outside the house. However, it does not expressly take into account those who may need supervision or training to use the appliance safely because of physical, sensory, or mental impairments. Additionally, the standard does not apply to rotary ironers used by many people, industrial-only appliances, or appliances used in unique circumstances like corrosive or explosive environments.
The use of appliances in automobiles, ships, aircraft, and other locations where national health authorities or other pertinent authorities have established additional regulations may necessitate the need for additional requirements.
