Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-30: Particular Requirements for Room Heaters
Also Known As:
The IEC Standard 60335-2-30 (fifth edition, 2009–11) is adopted with Canadian changes as the CAN/CSA-E60335-2-30:13 (R2018) standard. This standard supersedes the one that was released in 2001. It is meant to be used in conjunction with CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60335-1-11, which addresses the fundamental security specifications for home appliances and comparable devices.
The purpose of this standard is to guarantee the security of electric space heaters used in homes and other similar settings. It is applicable to single-phase appliances with a maximum rated voltage of 250 V and other appliances with a maximum rated voltage of 480 V. Convector heaters, fan heaters, greenhouse heaters, liquid-filled radiators, panel heaters, radiant heaters, tube heaters, and ceiling-mounted heat lamp appliances are a few examples of the appliances covered by this standard.
The common risks associated with these appliances are addressed by this standard, but it does not take into account the abilities of people with physical, sensory, or mental impairments or young children who do not have the knowledge or expertise to operate the appliance safely. Appliances used in automobiles, ships, or aircraft, as well as when combustible dust is present, may require additional standards. This standard expressly disallows some types of heaters, such as those found in air conditioners and sauna heaters.
This standard excludes items like clothes dryers, towel rails, heating devices for animal breeding and rearing, foot warmers and heating mats, central heating systems, heating cables, and appliances used in special environments (such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres).
