The safety concerns of portable electric appliances with cooking capabilities, such as baking, roasting, and grilling, are covered by the CAN/CSA-E335-2-9-94 (R2004) standard. Appliances having a rated voltage of no more than 250 V that are intended for domestic usage are the subject of the standard.

Toasters, waffle makers, portable ovens, roasters, rotisseries, radiant grills, contact grills (griddles), raclette grills, and indoor barbecues are only a few of the appliances covered by the standard. In Annex AA, examples of various appliances are given.

The standard intends to address the frequent risks connected to this equipment that users may encounter inside and outside of their homes. However, the standard does not take into account the usage of appliances by unattended small children, people with disabilities, or any other type of kid who plays with the device.

It is significant to note that appliances intended for use in tropical countries may not fully comply with the standard because they may need to meet additional unique requirements. Additionally, national labor protection authorities, health authorities, and other comparable authorities in various nations may have their own unique additional criteria.

The use of stationary ovens and grills covered by another standard (IEC 335-2-6), high-frequency heating equipment, commercial catering equipment, equipment intended for use in environments with corrosive or explosive atmospheres, and outdoor barbecues are all expressly excluded from the scope of this standard.
