Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-115: Particular Requirements for Skin Beauty Care Appliances
Also Known As:
The safety standards for electric devices used for skin treatment are the main topic of the IEC 60335-2-115:2021 standard. Appliances with a rated voltage of up to 250 V that are used for domestic, professional, or similar applications are covered by this standard.
The standard covers a wide range of devices, including battery-operated devices, devices with high-frequency or medium-frequency outputs, devices with low-frequency outputs, devices for skin beauty care that emit ultrasonic waves, devices with vacuum-pressure functions, devices for melting wax, devices that create cooling effects on the skin's surface, devices for facial cleaning, devices that perform microneedling, and plasma pens. It also covers appliances that contain spray- or vapor-producing components.
Despite the fact that the standard covers frequent risks related to these appliances, it does not take into account people—especially children—who may have physical, sensory, or mental impairments that prevent them from using the device safely without adult supervision or training. Appliances used in automobiles, ships, or aircraft may be subject to additional regulations set by national health authorities, labor protection authorities, or other comparable authorities.
Appliances designed solely for industrial use or for use in environments with unique characteristics, such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres, are exempt from the standard's requirements. Additionally, it does not include certain types of appliances, such as shavers and hair clippers, heating appliances, skin- or hair-care appliances, spray tanning equipment, devices for skin exposure to optical radiation, sauna heating equipment, devices for cosmetic and beauty care that use lasers and intense light sources, medical devices, radio frequency devices without skin contact, and ultrasound equipment with focused ultrasound transducers.
The fifth edition of IEC 60335-1:2010 and its revisions, which define general safety criteria for home and similar electrical equipment, should be utilized in combination with this standard, marked as Part 2-115.
