Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-113: Particular Requirements for Cosmetic and Beauty Care Appliances Incorporating Lasers and Intense Light Sources
Also Known As:
A standard called IEC 60335-2-113:2016 focuses on the safety standards for cosmetic and aesthetic care devices that utilize lasers and strong light sources. The standard is applicable to home appliances and similar devices with a rated voltage of up to 250 V that come into contact with the skin. It only applies to devices with light-emitting surfaces smaller than 25 cm2; devices with surfaces larger than that are covered by a different standard. Appliances designed for use in beauty salons and similar establishments are likewise covered under the standard's scope.
The standard takes into account the hazards that are frequently connected with this equipment, but it does not account for the capacities of people (particularly children), who might not be able to use the appliances safely without supervision or guidance. Additionally, it excludes scenarios in which kids might play with the appliances. The publication suggests that, to give manufacturers and testing bodies time to comply with the requirements, national adoption of the standard should happen no earlier than 12 months and no later than 36 months from its date of publication.
It is crucial to remember that IEC 60335-1:2010, which outlines general standards for the safety of home appliances and other comparable electrical devices, should be read in conjunction with this standard.
