Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-49: Particular requirements for commercial electric appliances for keeping food and crockery warm
Also Known As:
The safety standards for commercial electric appliances used to keep food and crockery warm are the topic of the standard IEC 60335-2-49:2021. The specification covers appliances with rated voltages up to 480 V for other appliances and 250 V for single-phase appliances. Hot cabinets, heated tops, display cases, heated crockery dispensers, heated tables, and radiant heaters are some examples of these appliances. They are made specifically for commercial use in places like hospital canteens, bakeries, and butcher shops, as well as kitchens in restaurants.
The standard addresses typical risks connected to these appliances and underlines the possibility of additional requirements for those used in automobiles, ships, or aircraft. In some nations, extra standards may also be stipulated by national health agencies, labor protection authorities, water supply authorities, and other similar bodies. Appliances made specifically for industrial use, those used in environments with corrosive or explosive atmospheres, those used in continuous food preparation, battery-operated appliances, and warming plates for home use are all excluded from the scope of the standard.
The 2021 edition of this standard is a technical modification that brings additional standards for appliances used in public spaces and aligns the language with IEC 60335-1:2020. It also defines new standards for the measurement of input current and clarifies the appropriate standard for common household appliances. Unless the most recent edition forbids it, the standard must be used in conjunction with the most recent edition of IEC 60335-1 and its revisions.
