High-pressure cleaners and steam cleaners used in residential and commercial settings must adhere to AS/NZS 60335.2.79:2017. High-pressure cleaners without traction drives that have a rated pressure between 2.5 MPa and 35 MPa are covered by the standard. As long as their capacity, rated pressure, and product of capacity and rated pressure meet specified requirements, it also includes steam cleaners and hot water high-pressure cleaners with a steam stage.

The standard covers a variety of power systems, such as mains-powered motors, battery-operated motors, internal combustion engines, and hydraulic or pneumatic motors, for the drive of the high-pressure pump. However, it expressly excludes domestic steam cleaners, hand-held and portable motor-operated electric tools, medical appliances, agricultural sprayers, non-liquid solid abrasive cleaners, high-pressure water jet machines with rated pressures greater than 35 MPa, appliances for use in production processes, machines intended for corrosive or explosive environments, and machines made for use in cars, ships, or airplanes.

It is significant to note that national health authorities, labor protection agencies, water supply authorities, and similar authorities in other countries may specify additional requirements for the safe use of the equipment covered by this standard.
