Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-79: Particular Requirements for High Pressure Cleaners and Steam Cleaners
Also Known As:
The safety criteria for high-pressure cleaners and steam cleaners used in residential and commercial settings are the topic of the standard IEC 60335-2-79:2016. For high-pressure hot water cleaners with a steam stage, it covers equipment with a capacity under 100 L and a rated pressure range of 2.5 MPa to 35 MPa. The standard is applicable to cleaners with a variety of power sources, such as internal combustion engines, battery-operated motors, mains-powered motors, and hydraulic or pneumatic motors.
The standard does not, however, apply to household steam cleaners, portable electric tools, medical devices, agricultural sprayers, non-liquid abrasive cleaners, high-pressure water jet machines with rated pressures greater than 35 MPa, domestic high-pressure water jet machines, steam cleaners, or machines used in vehicles, ships, or aircraft.
The 2016 edition of the standard is a technical upgrade that contains clarifications to some provisions, updated annexes, and amended definitions. It must be used in conjunction with IEC 60335-1's most recent edition and any updates. It is advised that equipment makers and testing facilities adopt the standard 12 to 36 months after it is published.
