Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-79: Particular Requirements for High-Pressure Cleaners and Steam Cleaners
Also Known As:
The safety standards for high-pressure cleaners and steam cleaners used in homes and other similar environments are the topic of the standard IEC 60335-2-79:2021. The standard includes steam cleaners and hot water high-pressure cleaners with a maximum capacity of 100 liters, as well as high-pressure cleaners with rated pressures ranging from 2.5 MPa to 35 MPa. The standard is applicable to many different kinds of power systems, including internal combustion engines, battery-operated motors, hydraulic or pneumatic motors, and mains-powered motors.
The standard does not, however, apply to high-pressure water jet machines with rated pressures greater than 35 MPa, household liquid or steam cleaners, motorized handheld and portable tools, medical devices, agricultural sprayers, non-liquid abrasive cleaners, machines designed for use in corrosive or explosive environments, machines designed for production processes, and machines designed for use in vehicles, on ships, or in aircraft.
Technical updates include alignment with IEC 60335-1:2020, clarification on handheld and battery-operated high-pressure cleaners, and general editing changes included in the fifth edition of this standard, which was released in 2021. It's crucial to remember that this standard needs to be applied alongside the most recent version of IEC 60335-1 and any updates to it.
