The IEC Standard 60335-2-31 is adopted with Canadian modifications in the CSA C22.2 No. 60335-2-31:19 standard. It replaces the previous edition, which was released in 2012, and is the standard's fourth edition. This standard takes the position of CSA C22.2 No. 113-15's specifications for ranges, hoods, and other cooking fume extractors.

Electric range hoods and other cooking fume extractors that are designed for installation above, next to, behind, or below household cooking ranges, hobs, and similar appliances are included in the scope of this standard. These appliances' rated voltages shouldn't go over 250 V. This guideline also applies to appliances used in stores, light industry, and farms that are not designed for household use but could nonetheless endanger the public.

The standard largely addresses typical risks caused by appliances found inside and outside of homes. The abilities and limits of people who could have physical, sensory, or mental disabilities or who lack the skills and knowledge required to use the appliance safely without supervision or teaching are not taken into account. Additionally, the regulation does not apply to equipment used by kids to play.

For appliances with electrostatic air filters, such as those used in automobiles, ships, or aircraft, as well as those governed by national health, labor protection, building, and similar agencies, it should be noted that additional criteria might be necessary. Appliances destined for commercial use or those to be used in environments with unique requirements, such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres, are not covered by the standard.

The CSA C22.2 No. 60335-2-31:19 standard, which has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group, was created in accordance with the Standards Council of Canada's standards.
