Standard EN SampleResidential Fueling Appliances
Also Known As:
The specifications for newly created appliances that dispense natural gas for vehicles directly into the natural gas fuel storage system of the vehicle are provided by the ANSI/CSA NGV 5.1-2016 (R2020) standard. This standard addresses the mechanical, physical, and electrical requirements for household fuelling appliances (RFAs).
RFAs that are intended only for natural gas and for outdoor or interior installation in non-living environments, like a garage, are included in the scope of the standard. The appliances must have a nominal voltage of no more than 240 volts AC and be able to work in temperatures no lower than minus 40 oC (minus 40 oF). The maximum inflow flow rate shouldn't exceed 10 SCFM (17 SCMH), and the fill pressure shouldn't be higher than the designated vehicle service pressure.
The standard further states that the RFAs must adhere to the relevant fire safety criteria and be intended for connection to residential utility gas pipe systems. It also includes gas compressor bundles with a single fueling hose and a dual fueling hose.
In the standard, gauge pressures are the default unless otherwise specified, with pressures expressed in kPa and psi. When this standard contradicts federal, national, provincial, state, or local rules, the requirements of the authority with jurisdiction are taken into consideration. The standard permits the use of SI (Metric) units and offers instructions for converting numbers from inches or pounds to metric units.
