The CAN/CSA-E60335-2-41:13 (R2018) standard specifies the safety criteria for household and other electric pumps. According to the standard, electric pumps with rated voltages of up to 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances should adhere to certain safety guidelines and take certain safety precautions.
Electric pumps used for a variety of tasks, including aquarium pumps, pond pumps for gardens, shower booster pumps, sludge pumps, submersible pumps, table fountain pumps, and vertical wet pit pumps, are covered by the standard. The requirement also applies to non-domestic equipment that may nonetheless endanger the public, such as those that laypeople use in retail establishments, small-scale manufacturing, and farms.
The standard does not account for individual limits, a lack of experience, or children playing with the appliance, even if it attempts to address typical risks connected to these appliances. Appliances used in automobiles, ships, aircraft, or nations with particular health or labor protection rules may need to meet additional standards. Pumps for flammable liquids, pumps designed solely for industrial use, pumps used in places with corrosive or explosive atmospheres, and pumps utilizing electrolytic chlorinators are all exempt from the requirements of the standard. It also does not apply to stationary circulation pumps for heating and service water installations.
It is significant to note that, unless specifically included in the standard, pumps included in appliances are not covered by it.
