Safety of Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Part 2: Particular Requirements for Cooking Ranges, Cooking Tables, Ovens and Similar Appliances for Household Use
Also Known As:
Various home cooking appliances are subject to a set of safety requirements known as the CAN/CSA-E335-2-6-94 standard. It includes kitchen appliances such as cooking ranges, separate stationary ovens and grills, cooking tables, table cookers, hob components, grills, and griddles.
The standard also covers cooking tables for building-in, separate ovens for building-in, and self-cleaning ovens (including pyrolytic types). Even the electrical parts of devices that run on sources of energy other than electricity are taken into account.
The standard does not, however, address particular dangers that might exist in nurseries or other locations where small children, elderly people, or infirm people are present unattended. In these circumstances, additional restrictions can be required.
The portable grills and ovens (which have their own separate Part 2), the mains-operated electric toys (which also have their own separate Part 2), and the microwave cooking appliances (which also have their own separate Part 2) are not covered by the standard.
Additional standards can be necessary for appliances designed for use in automobiles, ships, or aircraft. Finally, due to the local climate, appliances designed for use in tropical regions may need to meet certain specifications.
It's crucial to remember that many nations can have extra criteria laid down by national labor and health protection authorities.
