Regardless of whether an appliance's component parts are separate entities or part of a larger unit, it is covered, even if additional heating elements require electricity.

The electrical safety of component parts that are heated electrically is not covered by the standard, although it does include standards for equipment connected to gas use in appliances. It lists a few exclusions, including those for outdoor appliances, appliances connected to ducts for the evacuation of combustion products, appliances with pyrolytic gas ovens, covered burners that don't meet building standards, and appliances with specific ignition and fan features.

Furthermore, except for thermostatically controlled oven burners intended for delayed start, the standard does not apply to appliances supplied at pressures above predetermined limits or those with remote-operated burners.
