Domestic cooking appliances burning gas - Part 1-1: Safety - General
Also Known As:
The DIN EN 30-1-1 standard offers thorough standards for the construction, performance traits, testing procedures, and safety of home cooking equipment that burns flammable gases. A wide range of appliances, including freestanding and built-in hotplates, cookers, ovens, grills, and griddles, are covered by the standard. Regardless of whether an appliance's component parts are separate entities or part of a larger unit, it is covered, even if additional heating elements require electricity.
The electrical safety of component parts that are heated electrically is not covered by the standard, although it does include standards for equipment connected to gas use in appliances. It lists a few exclusions, including those for outdoor appliances, appliances connected to ducts for the evacuation of combustion products, appliances with pyrolytic gas ovens, covered burners that don't meet building standards, and appliances with specific ignition and fan features.
Furthermore, except for thermostatically controlled oven burners intended for delayed start, the standard does not apply to appliances supplied at pressures above predetermined limits or those with remote-operated burners. Additionally, it does not include equipment with hotplates or grill burners with programmable cooking cycles.
It's significant that the standard ignores the needs for gas cylinders, regulators, and connectors for third-family gases. The DIN EN 30-1-1 standard only relates to type testing and does not address ongoing production or quality control issues, which is another important point to remember.
