IEC 60335-2-9:2019 is a safety standard that focuses especially on electric portable cooking appliances used in homes and other comparable settings, such as grills, toasters, and similar devices. The standard applies to culinary equipment with a maximum rated voltage of 250 V, including those used for grilling, baking, and roasting. This rule is applicable to a variety of appliances, such as breadmakers, hotplates, raclette grills, pop-corn makers, and more.

To protect people inside and outside of their homes, the standard strives to address the common risks connected to these products. The physical and mental capacities of people, particularly youngsters, who might need supervision or teaching to use the device properly, are not taken into account. This standard does not apply to equipment made for use in business settings by professionals.

It is crucial to remember that appliances used in vehicles, ships, or aircraft may need to meet additional standards, and different nations may have their own unique rules established by national health authorities, labor protection authorities, and other similar bodies. The regulation also states that it does not apply to equipment designed to burn charcoal or other similar fuels, stationary ovens and grills, warming plates, frying pans, microwave ovens, or barbecues for outdoor usage. Additionally banned are devices made for use in regions with unique characteristics, such as caustic or explosive atmospheres, or for commercial catering.

The standard's seventh edition was released in 2019 and is a technical update that matches the text with IEC 60335-1, Ed. 5, and its updates. To guarantee compliance with this standard, it should be used in conjunction with the most recent edition of IEC 60335-1 and its amendments, which include revisions to the abnormal tests for toasters.
