Automatic electrical controls - Part 1: General requirements
Also Known As:
A standard known as IEC 60730-1:2013 is applicable to automatic electrical controls found in home appliances and other comparable equipment. The standard covers controls for a variety of equipment types, including those that use solar thermal energy, gas, oil, solid fuel, or electricity. Controls for building automation systems and public controls for commercial and industrial purposes are also included.
Both standalone controls and those incorporated into a larger control system are subject to the standard. Relays that are utilized as controllers for appliances in accordance with IEC 60335 are likewise covered. Automatic electrical controls used only in industrial process applications are exempt from the standard.
The standard's 2013 revision, which is a technical revision, makes a number of changes from the edition before it. Modifications to the title and scope, adjustments to specific clauses to reflect advancements in technology and applications, and new specifications for battery-powered controls are just a few of the major changes. The standard also includes updated criteria for screwless clamping units, capabilities for remotely actuated control functions, and allowances for switch-mode power supplies.
